Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - Tim Tebow tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Quentin Sims in the fourth quarter, helping the New England Patriots down the New York Giants, 28-20, in the preseason finale for both teams at Gillette Stadium.

Tebow finished 6-of-11 passing for 91 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while Ryan Mallett started under center and completed 10-of-16 passes for 117 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

George Winn rushed 14 times for 54 yards and a score for the Patriots, who finished the preseason 2-2 and will open their regular-season slate on Sept. 8 at Buffalo.

Eli Manning started under center for the Giants and played three series, going 6-of-9 for 74 yards and a touchdown. Fourth-stringer Curtis Painter completed 8-of-11 passes for 94 yards and a score for New York, which wrapped its preseason slate at 2-2 and will begin the regular season on Sept. 8 at Dallas.

Backup running back Andre Brown rushed for 27 yards on eight carries before sustaining a fractured left leg in the third quarter.

Manning put the Giants on the board late in the first when he found Hakeem Nicks for a 3-yard touchdown, but the Pats answered with a 12-play, 86-yard scoring march that Winn capped with a 1-yard surge to make it 7-7.

After forcing a punt on the Giants' ensuing touch, Mallett hooked up with Josh Boyce for a 40-yard score on New England's first play from scrimmage to give the Pats a 14-7 edge.

Josh Brown buried a 35-yard field goal late in the second and then added a 48- yarder early in the third to make it 14-13.

Painter hit Da'Rel Scott for a 6-yard score late in the third to put New York in front, but Tebow connected with Sims for a 52-yard touchdown early in the fourth before going back to Sims for a 9-yard score late in the game to account for the final margin.
