Recap: Green Bay vs. Arizona

Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - The newly-acquired Carson Palmer tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass in his first game as a Cardinal and Arizona downed the Green Bay Packers, 17-0, in the preseason opener for both teams.

Palmer went 4-for-6 for 77 yards and a touchdown for Arizona, which played in its first game under new head coach Bruce Arians.

The Cardinals swung a deal for the veteran quarterback Palmer from the Oakland Raiders in an offseason trade. The 33-year-old spent the past two seasons in Oakland after the Raiders acquired him from Cincinnati for a pair of high picks, including a 2012 first-round choice, in October 2011.

Stepfan Taylor ran for 63 yards on 21 carries in his rookie debut and Jaron Brown had five receptions for 46 yards and a score for the Cardinals, who were 5-11 a year ago. Larry Fitzgerald hauled in two passes for 21 yards in the triumph.

The focus in Green Bay has shifted to the offensive line since the Pack lost projected starting left tackle Bryan Bulaga to a torn ACL earlier in the week. The pedestrian line was supposed to be bolstered by Bulaga shifting out to the all-important left tackle position. Marshall Newhouse allowed nine sacks and a team-high 33 hurries as the team's left tackle in 2012.

Aaron Rodgers completed 3-of-5 passes in his only series, including a 50-yard strike to James Jones, for 62 yards for Green Bay, which lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional playoffs last season.

Patrick Peterson intercepted a Graham Harrell pass late in the first quarter and Palmer hit Andre Roberts with a deep pass along the right sideline for the game's first points.

Drew Stanton flipped a 1-yard score to Brown early in the second and Jay Feely's 21-yard field goal midway through the fourth concluded the scoring.
