Recap: Green Bay vs. NY Jets

Green Bay, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Rodgers had two touchdown passes in the second half and the Green Bay Packers rallied from a poor start to take a 31-24 win over the New York Jets.

Rodgers finished the game 25-for-42 for 346 yards with three scores for the Packers (1-1), who were coming off a thrashing at the hands of Seattle in their season-opener.

"We were in a spot, but our players stayed the course," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said.

Jordy Nelson caught nine passes for 209 yards and a touchdown, while Randall Cobb had a pair of touchdown catches in the win.

Geno Smith went just 16-for-32 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and also had 26 yards and a touchdown on seven carries for the Jets (1-1), who opened their season with a win over Oakland.

Eric Decker caught a touchdown pass while Chris Ivory ran in one touchdown in the loss.

Trailing by five points, the Packers went on top on their second touch of the third quarter as Rodgers hit Cobb for a 1-yard score. Rodgers and Cobb then connected on the 2-point conversion for a 24-21 lead with just under six minutes to play. The drive covered 67 yards over eight plays and featured a 33-yard reception from Nelson.

New York responded with a 52-yard field goal from Nick Folk to tie the game with 2:21 to play in the third. Smith and Bilal Powell got together for a 20- yard play on 3rd-and-6 earlier in the drive.

It took just one play, through, for the Packers to go back on top. Rodgers hit Nelson in stride near midfield, and Nelson avoided one tackler on his way to an 80-yard score.

New York appeared to tie the game late in the fourth as Smith went deep on 4th-and-4 at the Green Bay 36 and Jeremy Kerley came down with the ball in the end zone. A timeout call from the sideline, though, came prior to the snap.

"I just know for a fact I did not call the timeout," Jets head coach Rex Ryan said.

The Jets went on to convert that fourth down, but Smith later failed on a 4th- and-8 and Green Bay killed off the rest of the clock.

The first snap of the game saw Rodgers and his center get mixed up on the snap, and the Jets recovered the loose ball at the Green Bay 16. Five plays later, Smith rolled out to the right and ran it in from a yard out and the Jets had a 7-0 lead two minutes in.

New York then forced a Green Bay punt to get the ball back at its own 16. On 3rd-and-1, Smith ran out to the left and had the first down before lateraling it to Kerley, who took the ball 37 yards to the Green Bay 26. Three plays later, Smith dropped a long pass down the left sideline into the hands of Decker for a 29-yard score and a 14-0 lead.

Green Bay came back with an 11-play, 67-yard drive to get on the board as Mason Crosby connected on a 31-yard field goal to make it a 14-3 game.

New York scored its third touchdown on its third possession of the game, as Ivory broke through the middle on a 4-yard score and a 21-3 lead with 10 1/2 minutes left in the half.

Green Bay's next two touches saw Crosby hit field goals from 20 and 55 yards to make it a 21-9 game with just over three minutes to play in the half.

The Packers then tried an onsides kick that the Jets recovered, but Smith was picked off by Tramon Williams.

The Packers had the ball at their own 3, but Rodgers scrambled 11 yards and followed that with a 14-yard completion to Cobb. An 11-yard catch by DuJuan Harris coupled with a 15-yard penalty to New York got the ball to the New York 30. Following a 24-yard catch by Davante Adams, Rodgers hit Cobb in the middle of the end zone for a 6-yard score and it was a 21-16 game at the break.
