Recap: Green Bay vs. Carolina

Green Bay, WI ( Aaron Rodgers extended a historic streak and the Green Bay Packers continued their dominance in the month of October with a 38-17 shellacking of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Rodgers completed 19-of-22 passes for 255 yards and three scores, joining Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with four straight games of three touchdown passes and no interceptions. Rodgers, who hasn't been intercepted since Week 1 in Seattle, also extended a personal-best streak to 192 pass attempts without a pick.

Randall Cobb caught six passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, and Jordy Nelson made four catches for 80 yards and a score.

The Packers (5-2) have now won 10 straight games in October and 16 of their last 17.

"I thought the quarterback play was outstanding today and I thought, really, offensively, we did exactly what we wanted to do," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said.

Fresh off a career-high 17 rushes for a season-best 107 yards, Cam Newton was bottled up by Green Bay's defense. Newton threw for 205 yards with a touchdown and an interception and added just 41 yards on the ground in the humbling setback.

Carolina (3-3-1), which tied the Bengals last week, has just one win in its last five games.

Rodgers was picked off by Roman Harper on Green Bay's opening possession, but an offsides penalty negated the pick. He then used his legs to pick up a first down and extend the drive and on the following play, Nelson hauled in a reception near the right sideline, juked a defender and ran untouched to the end zone for a 59-yard score.

Following a Carolina three-and-out, the Packers faced little resistance driving back into the red zone for another touchdown. Nelson made three grabs on the 56-yard trek, which Eddie Lacy capped with an easy 5-yard rushing score.

Backup running back James Starks joined the party late in the first quarter when he muscled his way into the end zone from 13 yards out, giving Green Bay a 21-0 lead less than 13 minutes into the game.

"I don't think the defense gave us an opportunity to win in the first quarter," Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said. "I'm disappointed."

Carolina finally got some momentum by picking up two first downs early in the second quarter, but its drive stalled near midfield. Brad Nortman pinned Green Bay at its own 6-yard line, but that just meant more yards for Rodgers and Lacy.

The Packers went 94 yards in nine plays, punching in their fourth touchdown when Rodgers rolled to his right and fired to an open Cobb near the right pylon for a 3-yard score.

Graham Gano kicked a 33-yard field goal as the clock ran out on the first half to get the Panthers within 28-3 at intermission.

Newton was stuffed on a quarterback keeper on 4th-and-1 from near midfield on the first possession of the second half, and Rodgers took advantage of the short field by finding rookie Davante Adams for a 21-yard gain and another Green Bay touchdown.

Mason Crosby's 34-yard field goal late in the third made it 38-3.

Carolina scored a pair of garbage-time touchdowns to make the final score more respectable. Newton found star rookie Kelvin Benjamin for a 13-yard marker early in the fourth, and Derek Anderson and Brenton Bersin connected from a yard out with 1:24 to play.
