Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Bengals have signed kicker Josh Brown with Mike Nugent bothered by a calf injury.

To open a roster spot, the Bengals waived center Jeff Faine.

Signed in August after Kyle Cook suffered an ankle injury during a preseason game, Faine started the first seven games this season. A hamstring injury gave rookie Trevor Robinson the job and Cook is expected to return soon.

Faine spent the previous four seasons with Tampa Bay and was released in March. He also played two seasons with New Orleans and three with Cleveland, which selected him with the 21st overall pick of the 2003 draft.

The 31-year-old Notre Dame product has appeared in 125 games, all but one as a starter, in 10 NFL seasons.

Nugent did not practice Wednesday because of his injury and the Bengals worked out a few kickers. Brown apparently won the competition that reportedly included former Bengal Neil Rackers.

The 33-year-old Brown spent the past four seasons with St. Louis after kicking with Seattle for five years. He has connected on 80.9 percent of his field goal tries, including 21-of-28 last year with the Rams.
