Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed linebacker Quincy Black on injured reserve Tuesday, two days after he suffered a scary neck injury in the team's last game.

Black exited Sunday's 34-24 win over San Diego on a stretcher following a helmet-to-helmet collision with Chargers running back Ryan Mathews in the third quarter. The sixth-year pro was taken to a local hospital and underwent several hours of observation before being released later that night.

Though Black did not sustain any permanent spinal damage, Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said on Monday that the New Mexico product was still experiencing some complications with his left arm.

"The spine is fine," Schiano said. "It's the nerves and things coming off that. I don't want to say too much because I'm not exactly sure and I'd hate to misspeak, but I do know that it needs some further tests to get right to the bottom of it."

Black has served as Tampa Bay's starting strongside linebacker since 2009 and was a third-round draft choice of the Bucs two years earlier. The 28-year-old finishes this season with 32 tackles while starting five of the team's first nine games.
