Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Chan Gailey after three losing seasons.

The team made the announcement on Monday, one day after the Bills posted a 28-9 victory over the New York Jets to wrap up a second straight 6-10 campaign.

Gailey's staff has also been relieved of their duties.

"I understand this is a business. We didn't get the job done," Gailey said in a statement.

The Bills' woeful defense is viewed as one of main reasons he was ousted.

Buffalo gave up 435 points this season, the second-most in team history, and finished last in rushing yards allowed. The unit also struggled in the red zone and on third down, ranking as the league's worst in both.

Gailey took over the Bills in 2010 and the team went 4-12 in his first season.

Whomever replaces Gailey will inherit a club that hasn't reached the playoffs since 1999.
