East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Giants have signed quarterback Josh Freeman, who started three games for Tampa Bay and once for Minnesota last season.

Freeman joined the Vikings last October after a messy departure from Tampa Bay and started a Week 7 contest for Minnesota against the Giants. He had been with the Vikings for about a week when he took the field and was disastrous, completing just 20-of-53 passes for 190 yards with an interception in a 23-7 New York win.

The Vikings were set to keep Freeman as the starting quarterback, but it was determined that he had suffered a concussion in the game against the Giants and didn't play another down for Minnesota.

Freeman began last season as the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers, but struggled in the club's first three games. He completed just 45.7 percent of his passes for 571 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions before being benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.

Tampa Bay released Freeman in early October, just one day after Sports Illustrated reported that he had been fined twice for conduct detrimental to the team. One was for an unauthorized interview with ESPN and the other for skipping at least one team meeting.

With the Giants, he'll become the fourth quarterback on the roster, behind Eli Manning, Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib. Manning is recovering from ankle surgery performed earlier this month, but will likely be ready for training camp in July.

"Today, having the opportunity to sit in meetings and be around the guys in the room, from Eli to Curtis, Ryan, it's a great group of guys," Freeman told the Giants' website. "I'm excited and am looking forward to learning about everybody and getting to know the team."

The Kansas State product compiled a 24-35 record over his four-plus seasons as Tampa Bay's starter, throwing for 13,534 yards and 80 touchdowns with 66 interceptions after being drafted 17th overall back in 2009.

Freeman's quarterbacks coach in Minnesota was Craig Johnson, who is now the running backs coach with the Giants.
