Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have acquired cornerback Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets.

The Buccaneers will send their first-round pick in Thursday's draft, the 13th overall selection, and their fourth-round pick in 2014 for Revis, who also agreed to a new contract. The fourth-round choice will become a third-round pick if Revis is on the Bucs' roster on the third day of the 2014 league year.

Revis is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, an injury he suffered in Week 3 last season against Miami. The Jets granted the Bucs permission to give Revis a physical on Sunday.

The Bucs and Revis then agreed to a six-year, $96 million contract, according to NFL.com. He will be introduced at a press conference on Monday at 12 p.m. ET.

There had been speculation since January, when John Idzik took over as Jets general manager for the fired Mike Tannenbaum, that Revis was on the trading block. Rumors of a deal to Tampa Bay had been brewing for weeks.

"It became quite evident, we had some discussions with his representation, and it became quite evident to us that there was a substantial difference between Darrelle's view of his value and ours," Idzik said Sunday during a conference call. "So we felt like there would have to be a significant change on either side in order to create a path toward reaching an agreeable deal for the long- term. So you had to really weigh that into the situation, too."

Revis could have become a free agent after the 2013 season and has had issues with Jets management in the past, leading to thoughts he would not re-sign with the club next offseason. He held out as a rookie after being selected in the first round of the 2007 draft and had a lengthy holdout in 2010 before signing a long-term contract.

Considered the top shutdown corner in the NFL, the 27-year-old Revis played just two games last year, missing one contest with a mild concussion before his season-ending injury. He had missed just three games in his first five seasons and has 19 career interceptions, three of which he has returned for touchdowns.

"I been sitting around for the last hour trying to figure out what to say to the Jet Nation & I came up with this," Revis posted on his Twitter account. "The six years I played for the New York Jets were unbelievable. I put my body on the line everyday & did everything could to help the team win.

"I experienced a lot & learned a lot. The memories I had in New York I will keep dearly to my heart. I want to thank all the jets fans for making me feel welcome."
