Renton, WA (Sports Network) - On the same day they lost defensive coordinator Gus Bradley to the head coaching ranks, the Seattle Seahawks named Dan Quinn as his successor on Thursday.

Quinn, who spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida, will be starting his second stint with the organization. He served as Seattle's defensive line coach from 2009-10 before joining the staff of Gators' head coach Will Muschamp.

The 42-year-old Quinn, whose Florida defense ranked fourth nationally against the run and fifth in both fewest total yards and points allowed this past season, has a total of 10 years of NFL experience. He broke into the league as a defensive quality control coach with San Francisco in 2001 and has been a defensive line coach for the 49ers, Miami and New York Jets in addition to the Seahawks.

"I'm happy for Dan and this opportunity," said Muschamp on Florida's official site. "Dan's background is in the NFL and this is a great chance to go back to a place he's familiar with."

Bradley was named as the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach earlier on Thursday, four days after the Seahawks were eliminated by Atlanta in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

Muschamp announced that linebackers coach/special teams coordinator D.J. Durkins will be promoted into Quinn's former position.
