Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still being evaluated after suffering a right shoulder injury during Monday's game against Kansas City.
Tomlin, during his press conference on Tuesday following Pittsburgh's 16-13 overtime win, said Roethlisberger has a shoulder sprain and was still undergoing tests.
"That's all the information I have at this point," Tomlin said in his opening remarks Tuesday, adding that Roethlisberger's status for next week's game against division rival Baltimore would be in question.
Roethlisberger was sandwiched between a pair of Kansas City defenders on Pittsburgh's opening drive of the second half Monday and was driven to the turf. He was taken to the locker room immediately and left the stadium for further tests.
Tomlin said Tuesday that Roethlisberger has an SC (sternoclavicular) sprain, which is an injury to the ligament that connects the sternum to the clavicle.
The nine-year veteran threw for 84 yards and a touchdown on 9-of-18 passing in the first half before leaving the game. He was replaced under center by Byron Leftwich.
Tomlin said Leftwich would be the starter if Roethlisberger is unable to play next week, but the coach added he wouldn't have a problem starting Roethlisberger if he is cleared to play and didn't practice during the week.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday cited a source as saying the injury to Roethlisberger is "not good."
Roethlisberger has played through pain many times in his NFL career. He has completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 2,287 yards with 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season.
