Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder exited Thursday's game against the Washington Redskins with a left shoulder injury.

Ponder suffered the injury while trying to give the Vikings the lead late in the third quarter. Flushed from the pocket and scrambling, Ponder got hit hard by Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall while trying to stretch the ball over the left pylon.

Officials initially ruled it a touchdown, but replays showed the ball was out of bounds at the 1-yard line. Backup Matt Cassel took over under center and handed off the ball to Adrian Peterson for the go-ahead score.

Ponder threw some passes on the sideline before heading to the locker room. He did not return to the game.

Ponder completed 17-of-21 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before leaving. After the game, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said that Ponder suffered a dislocated left shoulder.

"My expectation is to be back next week," Ponder said. "We have a great training staff."
