Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Calgary Flames filled their vacant GM post on Monday, bringing in Brad Treliving from the Phoenix Coyotes.

Treliving had served as vice president of hockey operations and assistant general manager for the last seven seasons, and he'll take over for club president Brian Burke, who has been serving in the GM role since Jay Feaster was ousted on Dec. 12.

"I'm pleased to announce Brad as our general manager," said Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke. "He has been identified as the top young guy in the business and it's evident that he has prepared carefully for this day, acquiring extensive front office experience in all areas."

The 44-year-old native of Penticton, BC helped guide the Phoenix franchise, along with GM Don Maloney, to three straight postseason appearances and a Pacific Division title from 2010-12. He now will bear responsibility to reshape a Calgary club which has not experienced postseason play since 2009.

"I'm excited to be in Calgary. To work in the hockey business in a Canadian city is truly an honor," said Treliving. "I'm proud to be a western Canada guy so it's especially exciting and a homecoming for me. Over the course of my career, I've been dedicated to acquiring the experience and developing the skills required to not only receive this opportunity but to excel in it. I look forward to getting started and working with Brian and the entire staff."

Treliving also spent seven years as the president of the Central Hockey League, which, along with the ECHL, comprise the second level of minor league affiliation for the NHL.
