Denver, CO ( - A domestic violence case against Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was dismissed by a Denver judge Friday at the prosecution's request, the Denver Post reported.

The city district attorney's office filed a motion to drop a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault against Varlamov, who was arrested in October for allegedly attacking his girlfriend during a dispute at their Denver home. According to the newspaper, the prosecutors believed they would not be able to prove Varlamov's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

A previous charge of second-degree kidnapping had previously been dropped due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

Court records stated that Evgeniya Vavrinyuk told investigators that Varlamov kicked her and dragged her by her hair during an argument that led to the arrest, adding that the 25-year-old Russian was intoxicated.

Varlamov was able to travel and play with the Avalanche after posting a $5,000 bond shortly after being taken into custody.

The sixth-year NHL veteran has been putting together a strong season for Colorado, compiling a 16-8-1 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage over 25 games.
