New York, NY ( - The National Hockey League on Saturday fined Dallas Stars left wing Ryan Garbutt for a spear against Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry.

Garbutt was hit with a major and game misconduct for his actions, which occurred at the 9:11 mark of the first period in an eventual 6-2 Ducks win in Game 5 of their Western Conference quarterfinal on Friday.

The fine, which amounts to $1,474.36, is the maximum allowed under the terms of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Garbutt had been suspended five games by the NHL for charging Anaheim forward Dustin Penner in late October.

Shortly after exiting the penalty box, Garbutt left his feet to deliver a high hit to the head area of Penner after the Anaheim wing was releasing a shot. He was not penalized for the incident, which occurred during the second period of the Stars' 6-3 loss to the Ducks.

For that infraction, Garbutt was forced to part with $14,743.60 in salary that was placed into the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
