Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins agreed to a seven-year contract extension on Thursday.
TSN of Canada reports the deal will pay the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft $42 million. Nugent-Hopkins is entering the third and final year of his entry- level contract.
The 20-year-old center posted 18 goals and 34 assists over 62 games as a rookie with the Oilers in 2011-12. His numbers dropped to four goals and 20 assists in 40 games during the shortened 2013 campaign before he had season- ending shoulder surgery in late April.
