Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars have acquired center Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Philip Larsen and a seventh-round selection in the 2016 draft.

Horcoff leaves Edmonton after 12 seasons with the Oilers. The 34-year-old had seven goals and five assists in 31 games last season.

In 796 career games with Edmonton, Horcoff tallied 162 goals and 285 assists. He added 10 goals and 13 assists in 35 playoff games.

"Shawn is a proven leader in this league and helps solidify our group at center," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "He's a hard-working, two-way player that can contribute in all situations and our young players will be able to learn from his work ethic and example."

Dallas also receives prospect Curtis Hamilton in the trade. Hamilton registered five goals and four assists in 61 contests with Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League in 2012-13. He was selected by Edmonton in the second round of the 2010 draft.

Larsen appeared in 32 games with the Stars last season, recording a pair of goals and three assists.

Selected by the Stars in the fifth round of the 2008 draft, Larsen scored five goals and dished out 14 assists in 95 career games with Dallas.

The Stars acquired forward Tyler Seguin from the Bruins in a seven-player trade that sent forward Loui Eriksson to Boston on Thursday.
