Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings signed team captain and forward Dustin Brown to an eight-year contract extension on Thursday.

The deal is reportedly worth $47 million. Combined with the final year on his current deal, Brown will be with the Kings through the 2021-22 season.

Brown, 28, posted 18 goals and 11 assists in 46 games last season. In 18 postseason appearances, he had three goals and one assist but the Kings lost in five games to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals.

He has played his entire nine-year NHL career with Los Angeles and helped lead the team to its first Stanley Cup in 2012. He became the franchise's youngest and first American-born team captain when he was named in October 2008.

Selected by Los Angeles with the 13th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Brown has 181 goals and 207 assists in 641 games played. Among franchise leaders, he ranks eighth in games played, 10th in goals and 12th in points.

An All-Star in 2009, Brown is also known for registering hits. From 2006-07 to 2011-12, he ranked in the top three in the league in hits each season. He finished eighth in hits last year.
