Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will not suit up in his club's exhibition contest on Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers due to the passing of his father.

Denis Brodeur, 82, died Thursday in his native Montreal.

According to the Star-Ledger, Brodeur participated in a morning practice session before departing for Quebec on an afternoon flight. Cory Schneider will get the start, with Keith Kinkaid serving as the backup.

The elder Brodeur backstopped Canada to a bronze medal in the 1956 Winter Olympics. He later made his mark as a photographer, primarily for the Montreal Canadiens and Expos.

One of his iconic pictures was of Canadian Paul Henderson just after scoring the winning goal in Game 8 of the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union.
