New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Rangers have apparently backed out of a contract agreement with Jason Arnott due to concerns about the veteran center's health.

Arnott and the Rangers had come to terms on a one-year, $1.6 million contract on Saturday pending a physical, but reports from the New York Daily News and Bergen Record on Monday said the team will not proceed in negotiations with the 38-year-old after reviewing his medical records.

The 18-year veteran did play in 72 games with the St. Louis Blues a season ago, recording 17 goals and 17 assists, but underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during the offseason.

Arnott has amassed 417 goals and 938 points during his long NHL tenure, which began with the Edmonton Oilers in 1993 and consists of 1,244 regular-season games. The Ontario native also owns 73 points over 122 career playoff games and was a member of the New Jersey Devils' Stanley Cup championship team of 1999-2000.
