Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ottawa's Paul MacLean won the Jack Adams Award as the top coach in the NHL on Friday.

MacLean, who was an Adams finalist for the second straight year, guided an injury-riddled Senators team to the playoffs for the second consecutive season in 2013.

The team posted a 25-17-6 record to finish seventh in the Eastern Conference and pulled off the first-round upset by defeating the Montreal Canadiens in five games, before falling to the Penguins in five games in the semifinals.

In addition to losing such key players as star defenseman Erik Karlsson and goaltender Craig Anderson for much of the year, the Senators also had a league-high 14 rookies play at least one game.

MacLean is the second Ottawa head coach to win the award, as Jacques Martin took it home for the 1998-99 season.

Also nominated for the award were Bruce Boudreau of the Anaheim Ducks, and Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks. Both coaches had previously won the award with different teams.
