Recap: St. Louis vs. Edmonton

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Vladimir Sobotka and David Backes both scored in the third period as the St. Louis Blues rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, at Scottrade Center.

The Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on late tallies from Taylor Hall and Ryan Whitney. St. Louis, however, fought back with second- period goals by Jaden Schwartz and Kevin Shattenkirk.

"I think we still felt after the first period, if we got the next goal, we could make a game of it," said St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock.

Jaroslav Halak made 15 saves for the Blues, who have won two of their last three games.

Devan Dubnyk stopped 26 shots for Edmonton, which suffered its sixth straight loss in St. Louis.

"We started turning the puck over and didn't get any shots. It's pretty frustrating," Whitney said.

The Blues moved in front when Sobotka circled the Edmonton net and beat Dubnyk with a low shot from the right circle 4:28 into the third.

Backes made it 4-2 after some nifty stick work by T.J. Oshie. Oshie used a curl-and-drag move to get around one defenseman and then pushed the puck under another sliding rearguard over to Backes, who snapped a shot in off the right post with 5:23 remaining.

A scramble around the crease resulted in Hall beating Halak with 2:30 remaining. Hall eventually left the game for precautionary measures after experiencing tightness in his leg.

Whitney lit the lamp 23 seconds later as the defenseman joined a rush and fired in a feed from Ryan Smyth for his first goal of the season.

"We came out well and got a two-goal lead, but they were a desperate team and didn't lay down," said Edmonton forward Ben Eager.

The Blues benefited from a favorable bounce in getting on the board. A shot by Oshie was blocked, but the puck wound up on the stick of Schwartz and he sent a shot past Dubnyk at the 3:38 mark.

Schwartz then was checked into the boards from behind around the midway point of the period. Edmonton defenseman Ladislav Smid went to the penalty box for boarding, and the Blues ended an 0-for-14 drought on the power play as Shattenkirk lit the lamp on the ensuing man advantage with a blast from the point at 10:30.

Game Notes

The Blues entered Friday's contest allowing the fewest shots per game (22.9) this season ... Edmonton fell to 1-1-1 on its nine-game road trip ...Dubnyk has lost all seven career starts versus St. Louis.
