Recap: Ottawa vs. Florida

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Craig Anderson made 31 saves and Kyle Turris scored twice as the Ottawa Senators blanked the Florida Panthers, 4-0, at Scotiabank Place.

Jim O'Brien and Jakob Silfverberg also lit the lamp for the Senators, who improved to 2-0 on the season following a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.

"My job is just to look forward and give the team an opportunity to win," Anderson said. "I just have to worry about what I can do to make the team better and keep striving to make myself better."

Jose Theodore allowed all four goals on 37 shots as the Panthers were trying to open the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign.

"Obviously we have to play a better road game and get a more well-rounded effort," Panthers head coach Kevin Dineen said.

Each team failed to convert on a power play over the opening 10 minutes of action before Ottawa struck first while on the man advantage when Turris received a feed from Patrick Wiercioch in the left circle and one-timed the puck past Theodore at the 10:42 mark.

The Senators had a chance to add to their lead when Florida's Jack Skille was whistled for tripping with 3:18 left in the first period, but they could not capitalize on the opportunity and it remained a 1-0 game heading into the second period.

Ottawa, however, was able to add to its lead with the lone goal of the second, as Turris broke down the ice on a rush and set up to the right of Theodore before redirecting a Guillaume Latendresse pass from the left boards into the twine 12:07 into the middle stanza.

Anderson made 12 stops in the second period as Ottawa killed off a pair of power plays to keep the Panthers off the board, and then made 15 saves in the third to complete the shutout.

O'Brien fired a wrister past Theodore from the slot after grabbing a loose puck in the offensive zone with 2:25 to play, and Silfverberg ripped a quick shot from the right circle inside the far post for his first career goal with 1:04 remaining in the game to finalize the scoring.

Game Notes

It was the 20th shutout for Anderson in his career ... Florida went 0-for-3 on the power play ... The Senators were 1-for-4 on the man advantage ... The Panthers play at Montreal on Tuesday before hosting Ottawa on Thursday.
