Recap: Phoenix vs. Anaheim

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout, and the Phoenix Coyotes claimed their second consecutive 5-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Ekman-Larsson beat Jonas Hiller with a rising wrister to begin the round, and Mike Smith closed the pads on a Bobby Ryan forehander to end the contest.

Antoine Vermette, Matthew Lombardi, Shane Doan and Keith Yandle scored in regulation for the Coyotes, who also won by a similar score against their division rivals in the shootout at home on Saturday night and have taken three of four overall.

Smith picked up the win with 27 stops.

Ryan Getzlaf totaled a goal and two assists for the Ducks, who have dropped three of their last five. Ryan, Matt Beleskey and Corey Perry also lit the lamp, while Hiller made 36 saves in the setback.

"No one is happy in here (with one point)," Hiller said.

The clubs finish off their three-game set in southern California on Wednesday.

Beleskey lit the lamp just after the midway point of the first period, whipping a Getzlaf feed through Smith's pads from the slot.

The game was tied with 59 seconds played in the second as Vermette banged home the rebound of a David Moss deflection, and the Coyotes went up 2-1 at 6:34 on a power play when Hiller misplayed Yandle's right-point drive.

Getzlaf's short-handed tally with less than nine seconds left sent Anaheim to the second intermission knotted at 2-2.

Though Perry's power-play marker less than two minutes into the third put the Ducks ahead, Doan answered only 11 seconds later for a 3-3 game.

Ryan's rising rocket from the slot gave Anaheim a 4-3 edge with 6:31 played, and once more the hosts answered as Michael Stone's shot from the right point trickled through Hiller thanks to a Lombardi deflection only 1:18 later.

"Both teams know how desperate the points are, that's why there's responses after responses," Doan said. "It's important for us to get as many points as we can."
