Recap: Boston vs. Toronto

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tyler Seguin scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and later sealed the win with an empty-netter, as the Boston Bruins downed the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-2, at TD Garden.

Seguin also assisted on Patrice Bergeron's goal in the first period and David Krejci added another tally for Boston, which had lost two in a row coming in.

Anton Khudobin made 25 saves to pick up the win, while counterpart Ben Scrivens gave up three goals on 24 shots.

Nazem Kadri and Jay McClement each scored for the Maple Leafs, who had their three-game winning streak snapped and dropped their eighth straight meeting against Boston.

"We deserved a better fate," Toronto head coach Randy Carlyle said. "We did a lot of good things in the game, and I want us to build on that as a team."

McClement pulled Toronto within a goal late in regulation, as he stationed himself in front of Khudobin and tipped in Mikhail Grabovski's turnaround shot from the left circle with 5:08 remaining, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Bruins had blown a three-goal lead against Washington on Tuesday, but Seguin made sure there wasn't another letdown with his odd-angle shot into the empty net with 14.6 ticks on the clock.

"I was a little nervous once they scored that one in the third with how the last few games have gone, but we bore down and walked away with two points," Seguin said.

Boston narrowly missed cashing in on several scoring chances late in the opening period before putting one away. While battling for a puck along the boards in the neutral zone, Brad Marchand made a heady pass to Seguin with his skate. Scrivens made the initial save on a hard-charging Seguin, but the rebound was put home by Bergeron with 52.3 seconds left before the intermission.

The Maple Leafs pulled even on a 4-on-4 early in the second period, as Clarke MacArthur and Kadri executed a textbook 2-on-1 break with the former feeding the latter for the tying goal at the 2:32 mark.

The same line that scored the Bruins' first goal came through again, this time with Seguin finding the back of the net off Marchand's cross-ice pass at the 7:11 mark.

Krejci then tacked on a much-needed insurance goal when he backhanded in a rebound with 1:57 remaining in the middle stanza.
