Recap: Columbus vs. Dallas

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Vinny Prospal scored early in the third period, and the Columbus Blue Jackets snapped a four-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars.

Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 24 Dallas shots, including 11 in the third period, to preserve the Blue Jackets' first win since opening night.

"(Bobrovsky) made some big saves at key times and our guys sacrificed and made some big plays as well defensively and that's what it takes to win games," said Columbus forward Brandon Dubinsky.

Prospal broke a 1-1 tie at the 1:22 mark, beating Kari Lehtonen from a place on the ice where goals aren't usually prevalent. The veteran forward stood on the icing line to the goalie's left and simply whipped a shot that managed to trickle behind Lehtonen.

Columbus won despite going 0-for-7 on the power play, including a 5-on-3 for a full two minutes in the second period.

Lehtonen made 25 saves for the Stars, who have played six consecutive one- goal games to begin the season, losing the last three.

"We got to find ways to win those games and right now we're not," said Dallas forward Vernon Fiddler.

Jamie Benn made his season debut for Dallas, registering an assist on a Philip Larsen power-play marker. Benn missed the start of the season as an unsigned restricted free agent before agreeing to a five-year, $26.25 million contract last week.

Larsen opened the scoring 4:13 into the second as his wrister from the right point got past Bobrovsky.

Lehtonen was by far the busier of the two goaltenders in the middle stanza. Aided by the power play, Columbus had a 17-5 shot advantage.

The Blue Jackets finally solved Lehtonen on an odd-man rush late in the second. Artem Anisimov skated across the blue line and dropped the puck to Fedor Tyutin in the slot. Derek Dorsett then scored after the defenseman fed him for a quick shot from the left circle with 2:13 remaining.
