Recap: Montreal vs. Ottawa

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Lars Eller scored the winner in the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Ottawa Senators, 4-3, on Wednesday.

In the third round, Eller faked to the backhand before snapping in a forehand past Robin Lehner and Carey Price upheld the win by stopping Kyle Turris' wrister.

"It felt good to make a difference in the end," said Eller. "We got two points which is what we wanted and got. I feel pretty good, but it's not hard to when your team is winning."

P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist while Brendan Gallagher and Eller also scored for the Canadiens, who have won four straight. Price finished the game with 29 saves.

Daniel Alfredsson, Patrick Wiercioch and Mika Zibanejad all scored for the Senators, who have lost six of their last seven. Lehner stopped 42 shots in defeat.

"We got a point and against a first-place team that's not bad," said Alfredsson. "We took both Boston and Montreal to shootouts so we're pretty pleased with that aspect. Lehner kept us in this game the whole night."

Montreal scored 7:02 in as Gabriel Dumont's wraparound from the left side was topped but Eller was there to shove home the rebound, but Ottawa tied it 3 1/2 minutes later on the power play as Zibanejad's wrister from the inside left circle fooled Price.

The Habs scored a pair of power-play goals in the second with the first coming off a Gallagher re-direct of a Max Pacioretty shot at the 6:40 mark, and the next one coming with 2:49 to play in the frame as Subban's big blast from the high slot sailed in.

Ottawa, though, got one back with a power-play goal of its own as Alfredsson's shot from the left circle bounced off the back post with under two seconds to play. It was initially not ruled a goal, but the review said otherwise and it was a 3-2 game going into the third period.

The Senators tied the game 1:50 into the third period as Wiercioch faked a shot from the right wing, cut over to the middle and beat Price through the five-hole for his third goal.
