Recap: Los Angeles vs. Nashville

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Sergei Kostitsyn scored in the eighth round of the shootout as the Nashville Predators took a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.

After Simon Gagne was stopped by Pekka Rinne, Kostitsyn skated in on Jonathan Quick and deked to the forehand before snapping the puck in for the win.

Brandon Yip scored the lone goal of regulation while Rinne made 23 saves for the Predators, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

"The win was important to (Rinne) and a weight is off his back." Predators head coach Barry Trotz said of his goaltender, who was 0-2-3 coming in. "We would have been mentally scarred if we didn't win this one."

Dustin Brown scored the only goal of the game for the Kings, who had a two- game winning streak snapped. Quick turned aside 13 shots in the loss.

Both regulation goals happened in the first period with the Predators striking first.

After Gabriel Bourque won a right circle faceoff, Yip grabbed the puck and snapped a quick wrister over the glove of Quick just 58 seconds into the game.

Skating on the power play, the Kings tied the game. On a 4-on-3 advantage, a hard shot from Drew Dougthy went wide of the net. However, the puck hit the backboards and came right back out front where Brown snuck it in past a surprised Rinne at the 13:08 mark.

"We have to find ways to score goals. Every point is important," Brown said.

From there, the goaltenders took over as each goalie made five saves in the second period, while Rinne stopped nine over the third and overtime and Quick had to turn aside just six to force a shootout.
