Recap: Calgary vs. Chicago

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Marian Hossa scored the game-tying goal with 2.1 seconds left in regulation and Patrick Kane provided the game-winner in the second round of the shootout, as the Chicago Blackhawks bested the Calgary Flames, 3-2, on Saturday at Scotiabank Saddledome.

After the first three shooters came up empty, Kane faked a shot and slipped a backhand through the five-hole of Calgary goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Roman Cervenka had a chance to extend the shootout, but his wrist shot was turned aside by Chicago netminder Ray Emery, who saved an astounding 45 shots before stopping all three shooters in the shootout.

"We have to call the cops after that performance," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said of Emery's effort. "He was spectacular. It was a special performance."

Kane added a goal and an assist in regulation for the Blackhawks, who were coming off back-to-back shootout losses.

Dennis Wideman and Jay Bouwmeester each lit the lamp for Calgary, which has dropped two straight since registering its lone win of the season.

"I think that we skated our best game of the season," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said. "We just couldn't get the big goal."

Kiprusoff recorded 17 saves in the setback.

After neither team found the back of the net over the opening 40 minutes, both teams broke through with a pair of goals in the final frame.

Kane opened the scoring at the 4:08 mark of the third when he recovered a rebound off a Patrick Sharp shot and ripped a quick wrister from the slot past Kiprusoff for a 1-0 edge.

Calgary, which outshot Chicago 24-6 in the third, kept the pressure on from there, but was unable to break through until a power-play opportunity after Duncan Keith was whistled for delay of game at the 11:40 mark.

While on the man-advantage, Wideman flipped a shot on net from the right circle that appeared to deflect off someone's skate in front before sneaking across the goal line to knot the game at the 13:23 mark.

Calgary then jumped in front with 34.2 seconds left when a trailing Bouwmeester one-timed a shot from the slot past a sprawling Emery, but Hossa answered with time winding down to send the game to overtime.

With Emery on the bench in favor of the extra attacker, Johnny Oduya flipped a shot on net from the left dot that was blocked in front, but the puck landed on the stick of Hossa, who lifted a quick shot high over Kiprusoff to tie the game with just 2.1 seconds left in regulation.

Calgary had the best chance to score in overtime after Brandon Saad was called for slashing at the 2:12 mark, but Emery turned away all three shots he faced in the extra session to send the game to a shootout.
