Recap: Boston vs. Toronto

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Patrice Bergeron tied the game midway through the third period and scored the game-winner in the second round of the shootout, as the Boston Bruins rallied past the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2, to split a home-and-home series.

Milan Lucic scored in the second period for the Bruins, who bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Toronto on Saturday. Tuukka Rask made 23 saves.

"It was a step forward, but still we've got some work to do," Bergeron said.

Joffrey Lupul and Nikolai Kulemin lit the lamp for the Maple Leafs, who have dropped five straight in Boston. Lupul returned to the lineup after serving a two-game suspension for a hit last Wednesday against Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman.

James Reimer stopped 27-of-29 shots in defeat.

Down 2-0, Lucic put the Bruins on the board at the 9:49 mark of the middle stanza. Rich Peverley picked up a loose puck and fed Lucic, who powered in on Reimer and scored on a wrist shot.

Boston tied the game at the 10:36 mark of the third. Dougie Hamilton won a battle for the puck behind the net and passed to Bergeron, whose backhander from the bottom of the right circle beat Reimer.

Tyler Seguin and Tyler Bozak scored in the first round of the shootout. Bergeron followed with a wrist shot that got past Reimer. Rask stopped shots from Nazem Kadri and Kulemin to secure the victory for Boston.

The Maple Leafs broke a scoreless tie at the 2:04 mark of the second period. Jake Gardiner gathered the puck in the high slot before sliding a pass to Lupul at the side of the net. Lupul put the puck past Rask for a power-play goal.

Kulemin made it a 2-0 game at the 8:01 mark. Kulemin received a pass from Kadri and went in on a breakaway.

"I thought we limited their quality chances, but we gave up a few that cost us," Toronto defenseman Dion Phaneuf said.
