Recap: Ottawa vs. New Jersey

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Mika Zibanejad scored the winner in the fourth round of the shootout to help the Ottawa Senators take a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

In the fourth round, Zibanejad faked to the backhand and lifted it high over Martin Brodeur, while Ben Bishop sealed the win with a glove save of Andrei Loktionov.

"I think we were able to take advantage of some of the mistakes they made tonight," said Bishop. "Our guys did a great job of keeping their shots to the outside and cleaning up any loose pucks that made it to the front of the net."

Chris Phillips and Colin Greening each had a goal while Bishop finished the game with 32 saves for the Senators, who have won five of their last six games.

"I was real proud of our effort as a team tonight," said New Jersey head coach Peter DeBoer. "We only got one point, but these points count when you're fighting for a spot."

Loktionov and Marek Zidlicky each lit the lamp while Brodeur stopped 12 shots for the Devils, who had a two-game winning streak stopped.

New Jersey was playing its first game without star winger Ilya Kovalchuk, who is expected to miss the next 2-to-4 weeks with a right shoulder injury he suffered in Saturday's win against Florida.

Ottawa grabbed a 1-0 lead just 2:12 in as a right circle faceoff win saw the puck eventually get to Phillips, who sent a wrister on net from the top of the left circle that snuck in for his fifth goal of the season.

The score stayed that way until the 15:13 mark of the second period when the Devils tied the game. Off a left circle faceoff win, Andy Greene snapped a shot on net that was stopped, but the rebound was grabbed by Steve Bernier, who swept it over to the left where Loktionov wristed it in for his sixth goal of the season.

Ottawa, though, scored with 17 seconds left in the middle frame as Kyle Turris wristed a shot from the slot that was stopped, but Greening followed up the rebound and put it home for a 2-1 lead.

New Jersey knotted the game up again at the 6:05 mark of the third thanks to a nice individual effort from Zidlicky, who used hard work along the left boards to come away with the puck and beat Bishop over the glove with a wrister from the slot.
