Recap: Calgary vs. Minnesota

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mikko Koivu was credited with the winner in the second round of the shootout, lifting Minnesota past Calgary, 2-1, at the Saddledome.

Kyle Brodziak netted a regulation score for the Wild, who have won two in a row following a three-game losing streak.

"We didn't always make it easy on ourselves, but in order to win you need to do some good things and we did some good things tonight," said Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo.

Niklas Backstrom stopped 23 shots, including Alex Tanguay's last opportunity in the third round to preserve the victory.

Jiri Hudler notched the lone score for the Flames, who have lost two in a row and seven of their last 10. Leland Irving played well in defeat, making 23 saves.

"It seems that we dominated some parts, they dominated us in some other parts," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "We generated some good scoring chances, but we couldn't get the win."

With both teams having scored once, Koivu ended the second round by beating Irving with a wrister. Backstrom ended the contest by successfully swatting away Tanguay's opportunity.

Brodziak netted the lone goal of the first two periods with 1:38 remaining in the second as he took a Devin Setoguchi feed, moved around a Flames defender, pulled Irving out of position and slid the puck into an open net.

Hudler and Roman Cervenka broke free with a 2-on-1 break early in the third, and the former faked to the latter and scored through the five-hole at 1:28.
