Recap: Detroit vs. St. Louis

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Alex Steen scored just 52 seconds into overtime to help the St. Louis Blues take a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

In the extra session, Barret Jackman threw a hard shot on net from the left side that hit off of Jimmy Howard and popped out to the right. Steen was able to grab the puck and jam it in for the win.

"I was just trying to get a rebound," Jackman said. "Any shot on net is a potential goal. I was trying to pick top corner, put it in the middle of his chest and Steen did a great job of coming over the top and driving the net. We got a bounce and luckily we got it in."

Chris Stewart had a goal and an assist, while Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko each scored for the Blues, who snapped a five-game slide. Jake Allen stopped 15 shots in the win.

Pavel Datsyuk, Drew Miller and Tomas Tatar all scored for the Red Wings, who had a three-game winning streak stopped. Howard made 21 saves.

"We didn't have very clean play out there tonight and they made us pay for our errors," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "We did some good things good and got a point, but it's disappointing that we didn't get two."

Detroit opened the scoring just 2:17 in when a right circle faceoff win saw the puck come down low and Tatar snap it in for his first of the season.

It was a 2-0 game at the 7:54 mark as Miller fed the puck from the right boards down to Jordin Tootoo, who then sent it back to Miller for the one- timer past Allen.

St. Louis got one back while shorthanded after T.J. Oshie skated the puck into the Detroit end down the left wing, cut to the slot and as he was falling to the ice sent the puck over to the right circle for a one-timer by Berglund.

The Blues then tied the game on the power play at the 7:12 mark of the second period when Tarasenko got the puck at the right circle and snapped a wrister into the net.

St. Louis took its first lead of the game less than two minutes later as Stewart received a lead pass from Alex Pietrangelo and faked to the backhand before stuffing it in for his sixth of the year.

Detroit, though, tied the game with 7:21 to play in the second when Datsyuk was able to bounce the puck in off the arm of Allen with a shot from behind the net.

St. Louis managed just six shots in the third period, but Detroit had just one before the game went to overtime.
