Recap: Calgary vs. Columbus

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Vinny Prospal, R.J. Umberger and Mark Letestu each posted a goal and an assist to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 6-4 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Matt Calvert, Derick Brassard and Ryan Johansen each had a goal for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a three-game slide to finish a four-game road trip with a 1-2-1 mark. Steve Mason posted 29 saves in the win.

"It's a big two points for us and a good way to close out this road trip," said Columbus head coach Todd Richards.

Dennis Wideman, Curtis Glencross, Brian McGrattan and Mikael Backlund all scored for the Flames, who fell for the fifth time in seven games and were playing their first contest since trading former captain Jarome Iginla.

Early Thursday morning, a presumed deal with Boston fell apart and Calgary instead traded the 35-year-old Iginla to Pittsburgh for a pair of college forwards and the Penguins' first-round draft pick in 2013.

Miikka Kiprusoff was pulled after two periods for surrendering five goals on 20 shots. Joey McDonald stopped all four shots he faced in the third as the Flames had an eight-game home winning streak snapped.

"I can't fault the effort, but obviously we gave them three or four goals," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "I have to give my team a really good grade for the effort, for the compete level that they put in."

Columbus got the only goal of the first period while shorthanded halfway through the frame when Letestu scored off a bad turnover in front of the net by T.J. Brodie.

Calgary tied the game 2:54 into the second when McGrattan scored on a backhand in front after Mason failed to cover up a rebound.

The Blue Jackets scored the next two goals as Prospal notched his at the 8:44 mark off a 2-on-1 break when he converted a feed from Umberger, and it was a 3-1 game at 10:12 when Calvert shot it in from the right circle.

The Flames got one back less than a minute later on Backlund's goal from in front, but the Jackets got it back with 3:41 to play in the middle frame as Brassard scored on a rush from the left side for his sixth of the year.

That wasn't the end of the scoring. The Flames made it a 4-3 game on the power play with 2:12 to play in the period on Wideman's fourth of the season, but Johansen scored a minute later to restore a two-goal edge heading into the final period.

Calgary made it a one-goal game with 5:40 to play on Glencross' snap shot over the glove of Mason from the top of the right circle on the rush, but the team was unable to net the equalizer and Umberger sealed the win with an empty- netter in the final minute.
