Recap: Ottawa vs. Toronto

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Nazem Kadri netted his second hat trick of the season and Joffrey Lupul added a goal and three assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs posted a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

James Reimer stopped 31 shots for his second shutout of the season while Kadri also had an assist for a four-point game for the Maple Leafs, who have won four of their past five games.

Lupul was playing in his sixth game since missing most of the season with a broken forearm and he has notched at least a goal in all six of those games. During the run, he has posted eight goals and five assists.

"It's really easy to play with him because he's always in the right place at the right time," said Kadri about Lupul. "We've been working really well together and it's been fun here."

Ben Bishop was victimized for all four goals on 23 shots in the loss for the Senators, who came into the game having won six of their last seven.

"We had way too many giveaways tonight," said Ottawa head coach Paul MacLean. "Two of them were in front of the net and you can't keep asking your goaltender to make those saves. That's what lost us the game."

Both Ottawa and Toronto have 44 points on the season and are tied for the fifth and sixth playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto scored on the power play just 3:03 into the game after Kadri sent a hard pass from the right point to the low right side where Lupul was for a redirect into the net.

It was a 2-0 game in the Maple Leafs' favor with 7:15 to play in the middle stanza. On a delayed penalty to Ottawa, John-Michael Liles blasted a shot from the high slot that hit off of Lupul's leg in front and went to the right where Kadri slammed it home.

Kadri scored twice in just over a two-minute span of the third period to help the Maple Leafs take control.

The first goal came at the 2:44 mark as Lupul was all alone with the puck in the slot and gave a shoulder dip before passing it over to his left where Kadri was all alone for the easy goal.

A bit later, Lupul again set up his linemate as his pass from the left circle to the slot saw Kadri snap it in for his 17th goal of the season.
