Recap: Washington vs. Boston

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Eric Fehr scored 3:23 into overtime to lift the Washington Capitals over the Boston Bruins, 3-2, on Saturday.

Mike Green had two goals and an assist for the Capitals (27-18-3), who ended the regular season with 57 points and enter the playoffs as the third seed in the Eastern Conference. They will play the Rangers in the first round.

"We were prepared to play anybody. We can only control what we can control and that's the way we play," Green said. "It's going to be a good series and we know what to expect. Familiarity might come into play a little bit, but we'll see."

Braden Holtby made 32 saves for Washington, which went 15-8-1 at home this season.

Milan Lucic had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who trail Montreal by one point for first in the Northeast Division. The Canadiens beat the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Tuukka Rask stopped 34-of-37 shots for Boston, which will host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday to make up the game that was postponed on April 15 due to the Boston Marathon bombings. The Bruins need to win the game to capture their third straight division title.

Down 2-0, Green scored a pair of power-play goals in the third period to tie the game. At the 5:26 mark, Green's shot from the right point beat Rask.

Less than two minutes later, Green's one-timer from inside the blue line made it 2-2.

The Capitals went on the power play 1:40 into overtime when Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara was called for hooking. With time winding down on the power play, Green fired a shot on net from the left circle. Rask failed to control the puck and Fehr put home the rebound for the come-from-behind victory.

"I thought we did [have control after the second period] but [the Capitals] came back in the third [period], scored two goals to tie to the game. We had some chances to win the game [but] we didn't and they did," Chara said.

The Bruins drew first blood at the 9:59 mark of the first period. After David Krejci won a faceoff, Lucic fired a shot that deflected off the skate of a Capitals player and past Holtby.

At the 7:49 mark of the middle stanza, Andrew Ference beat Holtby with a shot from the top of the right circle.
