Recap: Chicago vs. St. Louis

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Kevin Shattenkirk scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout as the St. Louis Blues took a 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

In the sixth round after Brian Elliott stopped Michal Handzus, Shattenkirk skated in on net and buried a wrister past Corey Crawford for the win.

Adam Cracknell scored his first two goals of the season while David Backes also scored for the Blues, who have won their past two. Elliott stopped 33 shots in the win.

"It's exciting playing at this place and in this atmosphere," said Cracknell. "I was real happy to be able to contribute and help the club gain some ground in the playoff push."

The win gives St. Louis 40 points on the season as the team moved into the eighth spot in the Western Conference.

Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist while Brandon Saad and Viktor Stalberg also scored for the Western Conference-leading Blackhawks, who had a two-game winning streak stopped. Crawford made just 19 stops in the game.

"It's definitely not fun when you give up late goals," said Crawford. "I really didn't feel good about that shootout. Disappointing night for me, for all of us."

St. Louis got the only goal of the first period on Cracknell's first of the season thanks to his big blast from the right circle that hit off the stick of a Hawk and went in with 3:57 to play.

Chicago, though, scored twice in the early part of the second period to take the lead.

Toews got the first goal at the 3:18 mark when he slammed home the rebound off a Brent Seabrook shot, then he set up the second goal 2:27 later when his pass from the right boards to the front was shot home by Saad.

The Blues tied the game 3:30 into the third when Cracknell stole the puck from the right point in his own zone and went the other way. He skated down the middle then slid to the right before sliding the puck under Crawford for his second of the game.

St. Louis then made it a 3-2 game 3 1/2 minutes later as Jay Bouwmeester let fly with a shot from the right point that saw Backes jam it home for his fourth of the season.

The Blackhawks, though, tied the game with 4:31 to play as a shot from the right point by Michal Rozsival was blocked in front, but Stalberg swept in the rebound.
