Recap: Detroit vs. Nashville

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jimmy Howard made 33 saves for his first shutout of the season to help Detroit snap a skid with a 4-0 win over Nashville.

Niklas Kronwall had a goal and two assists while Daniel Cleary, Drew Miller and Tomas Tatar all scored for the Red Wings, who broke a five-game losing streak.

"He made a great save at the end and made plenty of saves for us when the game was still on the line," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock about Howard. "He's been solid for us all year long and I'm happy that he got the shutout."

Pekka Rinne gave up all four goals on 27 shots for the Predators, who have dropped four of their last five and have been blanked in consecutive games.

"When you come into this building you have to bring your best game with you," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "I thought we played well at times, but they were just better than us tonight."

Detroit jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:11 mark of the first period when Kronwall blasted a shot from the left point and Miller tucked in the rebound from in front for his second of the year.

The score stayed that way until 2:58 into the second when Tatar snuck in a rebound from the right side off a rebound shot from Joakim Andersson for a 2-0 lead.

Detroit made it 3-0 with 4:27 to play in the third as Kronwall flubbed a one- timer from the slot, but the puck knuckle-balled into the net for his second of the season.

Skating on the power play, the Red Wings put the game away as Kronwall's shot from the high slot was deflected into the net by Cleary.

Howard finished off his 12th career shutout with nine saves in the third.
