Recap: Detroit vs. St. Louis

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Brian Elliott was spectacular in a 28-save shutout as the St. Louis Blues posted a 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

Thanks to Elliott's first shutout of the season, St. Louis now has 44 points on the season and moved from the eighth playoff spot to the sixth seed in the Western Conference.

Chris Porter scored the only goal of the game on assists from Barret Jackman and Patrik Berglund for the Blues, who have won four straight.

Jimmy Howard stopped 24 shots as the Red Wings lost for a fourth time in their past six games to fall to the eighth spot in the West.

"I thought it was a real good game and our guys competed hard," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "We executed real good and both sides had their chances, but it was them who got one to go in. This was playoff hockey."

Porter's goal came at the 16:28 mark of the second period as the puck bounced around in the slot and went on net. It then sat in the crease before Porter whacked it in for his second of the year.

After stopping 20 shots through the first two frames, Elliott was called upon several times in the latter half of the third period to preserve the lead.

His first nice stop came on a save off a Henrik Zetterberg floating backhander from the slot with eight minutes left. He then stopped Pavel Datsyuk down low and Niklas Kronwall a bit later during a sequence in the St. Louis end with under five minutes to play.

Elliott came up with his finest stop with Howard pulled for an extra attacker as he made a glove save on a Datsyuk shot from the slot through a screen with 20.9 seconds to play to preserve the win.

Game Notes

Elliott has 19 career shutouts ... St. Louis plays in Nashville on Tuesday ... Detroit hosts San Jose on Thursday ... The Blues won three of the five games against the Red Wings this season.
