Recap: San Jose vs. Dallas

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Jamie Benn scored the lone shootout goal, as the Dallas Stars edged the San Jose Sharks, 5-4, at HP Pavilion.

The Stars twice overcame two-goal deficits to end the Sharks' winning streak at seven games.

Rookie Alex Chiasson, playing in his third career NHL game, scored two goals for Dallas, which has won two games in a row.

"The only thing that matters is what we believe in this dressing room," Benn said. "It's not going to be pretty some nights. But the effort is going to be there and the heart and character will be there also. I think you saw part of that."

With the Stars trailing 4-2, Chiasson beat San Jose goaltender Antti Niemi for a second time 6:07 into the third period. Loui Eriksson then potted a rebound from outside the crease to draw Dallas even at 9:14.

Following the five-minute overtime, Benn fired a shot past Niemi to close the second round of the shootout. Dallas netminder Kari Lehtonen denied Brent Burns to secure the extra point for his club.

San Jose's Tommy Wingels opened the scoring 8:39 into the contest. Logan Couture stole the puck from defenseman Aaron Rome behind the Dallas net and slipped the puck out front to Wingels, who didn't miss from the slot.

The teams combined for five goals in the second period.

After Burns beat Lehtonen at the 3:06 mark, Eric Nystrom and Chiasson scored 26 seconds apart to tie things up. Nystrom's goal came 35 seconds after Burns had given San Jose a 2-0 lead.

T.J. Galiardi put the Sharks back on top with a spin-o-rama backhander from the right circle at 7:48, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored on a wraparound at 15:31. Vlasic was credited with the goal after a lengthy review.

"It's very disappointing," Wingels said. "We're happy with the homestand as a whole but you're only as good as your latest performance. There are things we need to clean up and move on."

Game Notes

The Sharks finished 6-0-1 on their seven-game homestand ... The Stars snapped a four-game losing streak in San Jose. The Sharks had outscored Dallas 19-4 while winning the previous four home meetings ... Lehtonen made 32 saves ... Niemi stopped 30 shots.
