Recap: New Jersey vs. Winnipeg

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Evander Kane scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Andrew Ladd added an insurance tally in the third, as the Winnipeg Jets downed the New Jersey Devils, 4-2, at Prudential Center.

Grant Clitsome and Zach Bogosian also scored for the Jets, who got 24 saves from Ondrej Pavelec in improving to 3-1-0 on their five-game road trip.

"It's not easy to win on the road in this league," Ladd said of the road trip. "It's been nice so far. We got another one to go, and we would sure like to finish it off with a win."

Johan Hedberg, in net for the second straight night as Martin Brodeur sat with a back injury, gave up all four Winnipeg goals on 27 shots.

"Warmup didn't feel good enough. I didn't feel 100-percent," Brodeur said. "I decided to pull myself out."

Travis Zajac and Steve Bernier lit the lamp for New Jersey, which suffered its second regulation loss at home and fell to 1-3-1 in its last five.

With the score tied, 2-2, Kane put the Jets in front on a terrific individual effort, as he split a pair of defenders near the blue line and avoided Hedberg's sprawling poke check with 2:12 left in the middle stanza.

Early in the third, a Devils turnover saw the puck squirt out to the left circle, where Ladd ripped home a wrister for his 10th of the season at the 7:46 mark.

The Devils were denied a goal with 6:07 remaining as Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey grabbed a puck mid-air and threw it out of the crease. The whistle blew prematurely, and the Devils had few opportunities from there.

The Jets opened the scoring 2 1/2 minutes in when Blake Wheeler brought three defenders with him into the left circle, stopped on a dime and sent a centering pass that resulted in Bogosian's first goal of the year.

Midway through the first period the Devils tied it, as David Clarkson's chip up the boards started a 2-on-1 break for Patrik Elias and Zajac, who beat Pavelec far side with a wrister.

Bernier was credited with the go-ahead goal with 2:50 left in the first, but Winnipeg tied it on the power play in the second period. With Anton Volchenkov off for interference, Clitsome ripped a shot that hit off the top of Hedberg's glove and found the back of the net at the 13:01 mark.

The goal ended Winnipeg's 0-for-21 drought on the power play.
