Recap: Boston vs. Ottawa

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored the game-winning goal with 3:34 left to lead the Ottawa Senators past the Boston Bruins, 4-2, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

With the win, the Senators secured the seventh seed and the right to face the No. 2 Montreal Canadiens in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Erik Condra, Jared Cowen and Kyle Turris also scored for Ottawa, which finished the season with a 25-17-6 record. Robin Lehner made 34 saves in the win.

"We were eighth last year, so to win here the last game and finish seventh it feels really good," Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson said. "We improved on last year, and that's what we wanted."

Rich Peverley and Dennis Seidenberg scored for the Bruins (28-14-6), who dropped to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Boston will host the fifth-seeded Toronto Maple Leafs in the opening round of the playoffs.

"You want to get the No. 2 spot, but at the end it doesn't matter," Seidenberg said. "We still have home ice advantage in the first round, and the first round is always the toughest one to get out of."

Tuukka Rask made 18 saves in the setback.

The game was originally scheduled for April 15, but was postponed because of the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Marc Methot threw a shot from the point on goal, but it was turned aside by Rask. The rookie Pageau was crashing the net and was able to control the rebound before sliding it past Rask for the game-winner.

Turris added an empty netter to account for the final margin.

Condra scored with 3:01 left in the opening period to put the Senators ahead 1-0. Pageau fired a shot from the slot, but it was turned away by Rask. Condra was there to clean up the miss, though, and deposited the puck into the back of the net.

Cowen's marker midway through the second frame put Ottawa on top 2-0. Peverley, though, scored a power-play goal with four seconds left in the middle session to send the Bruins into the intermission down 2-1.

Seidenberg lit the lamp 14 seconds into the third to tie the game. Milan Lucic found Seidenberg as he entered the Ottawa zone. Seidenberg skated to just above the right circle and fired a slapper through heavy traffic and into the net.
