Recap: Winnipeg vs. Washington

Belleville, ON (Sports Network) - Mike Green recorded the winner in a shootout, as Washington nipped Winnipeg, 4-3, in the preseason opener for both clubs at Yardmen Arena.

Stan Galiev, Jack Hillen and Troy Brouwer tallied in regulation for the Capitals, who moved from the Southeast to the Metropolitan Division.

Braden Holtby got the start, and allowed two goals on 19 shots. Philipp Grubauer took over and stopped 25 shots in regulation and overtime then all four in the shootout for the win.

Evander Kane lit the lamp twice and Scott Kosmachuk once for the Jets, who have been relocated from the Southeast into the more geographically-friendly Central Division.

Edward Pasquale stopped 36-of-39 shots, but not the one which ultimately counted.
