Recap: Edmonton vs. Montreal

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk each posted a goal and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens took a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Brandon Prust and Max Pacioretty scored, while P.K. Subban added three assists for the Canadiens, who dropped a 3-2 decision to Calgary on Wednesday to start a four-game road trip. Peter Budaj stopped 27 shots in the win.

Ryan Smyth had the lone goal of the game for the Oilers, who have dropped three of four to start the season. Devan Dubnyk gave up three goals on 26 shots in the loss.

"We didn't have any good chances and you have to give them credit because they kept up to the outside," said Smyth.

After a scoreless first period, Edmonton took a 1-0 lead as a Taylor Hall pass from the right side was tipped in by Smyth in front for a power-play marker at 2:28 of the second.

Montreal, though, tied the game at 9:24 of the second while on the power play as Galchenyuk held the puck at the right circle and fired it to the low left side where Gallagher slammed it home for his third of the year.

Less than three minutes later, the Canadiens took a 2-1 lead as a left wing shot from Travis Moen was stopped by Dubnyk, but the rebound sat in the crease and Prust tapped it in.

The score stayed that way until 12:15 of the third, when Gallagher skating down the right wing on a 2-on-1 break abd passed to his left where Galchenyuk snapped it home.

Pacioretty sealed the win with the net open in the final moments.
