Recap: Washington vs. Carolina

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeff Skinner had two goals and an assist in the Carolina Hurricanes' 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Andrej Sekera and Jiri Tlusty had one goal apiece for the Hurricanes, who snapped a two-game skid. Justin Peters stopped 26-of-27 shots.

"We have a lot of road games coming up here, a big stretch," Peters said. "We have confidence and we want to build that confidence coming on the road knowing that we can play a good road game and get some points."

Mike Green scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who had a two-game winning streak halted.

Braden Holtby turned aside 19-of-23 shots over two periods. Philipp Grubauer made nine saves in the third frame.

Skinner scored the first two goals of the game. At the 10:20 mark of the first period, Skinner lit the lamp from a sharp angle.

The Hurricanes went up 2-0 when Skinner scored from the left circle at 11:18 of the middle stanza.

Sekera made it a three-goal contest on a slap shot from the point at the 14:09 mark. Less than a minute later, Tlusty scored on a backhander.

Green's first goal of the season got the Capitals on the board at the 6:39 mark of the third period. His wrist shot from the high slot got past Peters.

"You know as a smaller subplot it's obviously good for him," Capitals coach Adam Oates said of Green's goal. "It's obviously been something that we've talked about a lot. Now the zero is gone, so hopefully it leads to more."

Game Notes

Sekera returned to the lineup after missing two games with an upper-body injury ... Carolina went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Capitals went 1- for-5 on the man advantage.
