Recap: Winnipeg vs. New Jersey

Winnipeg, MB (SportsNetwork.com) - Al Montoya turned aside all 24 shots he faced in his season debut, backstopping the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils at MTS Centre.

Evander Kane scored two goals for Winnipeg, which snapped a three-game losing streak. The Jets opened the season with consecutive wins before the slide.

"I take it upon myself to be one of the leaders in this room and on the ice," Kane said. "Whatever area I feel I need to lead in, whatever the situation is in the game I want to do that and I try to do that as much as I can."

Cory Schneider stopped 32 shots for a Devils team still seeking their first win (0-3-3). The six-game winless drought is the worst to start a season since the club moved to New Jersey.

The Devils were 0-for-5 on the power play and failed to score on a two-man advantage for 1:12 early in the second period.

"You got a full five-on-three there. If we score, I think it's a different game. We have to generate something there," New Jersey head coach Peter DeBoer remarked.

Shortly after the Jets killed the 5-on-3 power play, Kane went around defenseman Adam Larsson on a rush down the left wing boards and had his feed into the crease pinball in off rearguard Andy Greene at the 2:57 mark.

Kane added an empty-netter with 57 seconds remaining in the third period. Andrew Ladd then scored 20 seconds later with Schneider back between the pipes.

Jets forward Olli Jokinen picked up his 400th career assist on Kane's second goal. It was also his 700th point ... Montoya posted his fourth career shutout ... New Jersey defenseman Anton Volchenkov played in his 600th career NHL game.
