Recap: Columbus vs. Ottawa

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Robin Lehner made 32 saves to earn his first win of the season as the Ottawa Senators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 at Nationwide Arena.

Erik Karlsson opened and closed the scoring for Ottawa, which snapped a five- game losing streak. Clarke MacArthur and Chris Neil had the other Senators goals.

"As a team and as a group, I thought we played a real solid 60 minutes," said Ottawa coach Paul MacLean.

Curtis McElhinney allowed three goals on 23 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped four games in a row for the second time this season.

Brandon Dubinsky drove the Ottawa net and drew a slashing penalty on Karlsson 1:27 into the third period. RJ Umberger converted on the ensuing power play while on his knees, swatting the puck from the slot behind Lehner at 3:02.

Neil, however, made it 3-1 at 13:55, taking a drop pass from Jason Spezza and firing a wrister past McElhinney. The assist was the 400th of Spezza's career.

Karlsson added an empty-net tally with 18 seconds to play.

"We have to find solutions to win hockey games," said Columbus coach Todd Richards. "There was an opportunity in the third and we let it slip away."

The Senators struck twice late in the first period.

Karlsson was not obstructed as he skated into the Blue Jackets zone and wristed the puck from the right circle high over McElhinney's glove with 5:09 remaining.

On a last-gasp rush, Kyle Turris fired a shot wide of Columbus' net. Bobby Ryan then picked up the loose puck and dished from the behind the cage to MacArthur for a one-timer in the slot with 3.9 seconds left.

The Blue Jackets' best scoring chance in the second period belonged to Marian Gaborik, who fired the puck over the net with Lehner down on his belly.
