Recap: San Jose vs. NY Islanders

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Okposo tied the game with 37 seconds left and scored the game-winner in the shootout to lead the New York Islanders to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

Thomas Vanek also scored and Kevin Poulin made a career-high 46 saves for the Islanders, who snapped a 10-game skid.

"As bad as we played in the first period, to stick with it all game and go into the third period down 2-0, to get this win was huge," Okposo said.

Patrick Marleau had one goal and an assist, Joe Pavelski added a goal and Dan Boyle finished with a pair of assists for the Sharks, losers in four straight. Antti Niemi made 26 saves in the setback.

"Gave up a goal in the first and last minute of the third," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said.

New York trailed 2-0 entering the final frame. Vanek, though, cut the deficit in half with his marker just 51 seconds into the third. Okposo took a pass from John Tavares and skated in, cut back across the net and fired a shot, but Niemi managed to get a pad on it. With the puck floating around the crease, Vanek was able to get a stick on it and pound it home.

Tavares won a faceoff in the San Jose zone and dropped it back to Okposo, who ripped a wrister into the back of the net at 18:23 of the final frame to force overtime.

Marleau tallied on a power play 5:26 into the middle session. Marleau collected a rebound and the left circle and blasted it into the back of the night.

Boyle fired a shot that bounced off Poulin's pad right to Pavelski, who sent it into the back of the net.
