Recap: Dallas vs. Edmonton

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Garbutt tallied a goal and two assists, as the Dallas Stars snapped their lengthy losing skid with a 5-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday at American Airlines Center.

Dallas had dropped six in a row in regulation for the first time since Dec. 5-15, 1995 coming into the contest, but got a goal and an assist apiece from Trevor Daley, Jamie Benn and Cody Eakin to notch its first win of 2014.

"We're pretty happy with this one," Garbutt said. "First win of 2014, we just have to keep it going."

Erik Cole also lit the lamp, while Kari Lehtonen stopped 31 shots to record the victory.

Justin Schultz and Sam Gagner each registered a goal, while Ilya Bryzgalov allowed four goals on 29 shots in the setback, Edmonton's second in a row and seventh in its last nine games.

"It's the same old story; we can't put a full 60 minutes together for some reason," Schultz said. "We played well at the end, we were skating and using our speed and we had a lot of chances, but we've got to find a way to do that for all 60."

Cole got the Stars on the board just 14 seconds in, as Daley picked up a loose puck between the circles before dishing to the low right side, where Cole pounded the puck home for a 1-0 lead.

Schultz pulled Edmonton even with a backhander from in close at 3:40, but the Stars scored twice in a 1:47 span to grab a 3-1 lead just past the midpoint of the first.

Garbutt broke the 1-1 tie at 8:35 when he pounded a rebound into an empty net amid a scrum in front.

With the Stars skating on the power play shortly after, Benn buried a wrister from the inner half of the left circle to give Dallas a two-goal lead.

Eakin extended the margin with his 10th of the season 1:10 into the second stanza, but Gagner poked the puck home from in front with Edmonton on a power play at 10:28 to make it 4-2.

However, Lehtonen was able to make the lead stand from there, stopping all eight shots he faced over the final 20 minutes to keep Dallas in front.

Daley added an empty-netter at 19:21 to account for the final margin.
