Recap: Chicago vs. Toronto

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Kostka scored his first NHL goal against his former team and it was a game-winner.

Kostka's goal came during a flurry of scoring in the second period and helped lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Bryan Bickell and Brandon Pirri also scored for the Blackhawks, who have won four of their last five, and Corey Crawford made 19 saves.

"We certainly did what we wanted to do tonight, much more effective," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville.

Nazem Kadri tied the game briefly for the Maple Leafs, but they dropped their second in a row. Jonathan Bernier gave up three goals on 40 shots.

"They play a pretty high-tempo game and we didn't seem to be able to keep the pace up until the third period," Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said.

Dave Bolland, who scored the Stanley Cup-clinching goal for the Blackhawks in June, returned to Chicago and had two shots in 16 minutes of ice time.

All four goals came during a span of 11:17 in the second period.

Bickell got his own rebound on a try from the left side, skated around to the other side of the crease and tucked a shot behind a scrambling Bernier to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead 5:32 into the second period.

Kadri scored on a power play just 1 1/2 minutes later to tie the game for the Maple Leaps, settling in front of the crease to jam home a pass from Joffrey Lupul.

But Kostka, who played 35 games for Toronto last season, got the lead back for Chicago 3 1/2 minutes on a wrist shot through a screen.

Pirri then made it a two-goal game at 16:49. His second NHL goal came from the low left side on a power play.

Game Notes

Both teams are off until Tuesday, when the Maple Leafs host the Ducks and the Blackhawks play at Florida ... Toronto went 1-for-5 on the power play and the Blackhawks were 1-for-3.

Corey Crawford -- the last of three goaltenders to give up four goals -- stopped 14-of-18 shots in the third period to earn the win. Ryan Johansen from Team Foligno picked up the MVP award, pacing his side with two goals and as many assists. Patrick Kane and Steven Stamkos added two goals and one assist apiece, while Claude Giroux totaled three points on a tally and two helpers. Marc-Andre Fleury took the loss, charged with seven goals on 16 shots in the second period.
